Community members are invited to attend a COMET Community Training focused on recognizing and responding to concerns about mental and emotional well-being. The free training, hosted by the Clay Counts Coalition, will take place Wednesday, February 11, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Clay Center Zoo Welcome Center.
COMET—which stands for Changing Our Mental & Emotional Trajectory—teaches participants a practical, conversational approach to supporting friends, neighbors, or acquaintances who may be struggling. Attendees will learn how to start difficult conversations, practice intervening questions, and better understand the importance of being “the other person” when someone needs support.
The training reflects rural values of neighbors helping neighbors and emphasizes that communities are their own best resource for emotional and mental well-being.
While a range of populations can find COMET very useful, the program is specifically designed for people living in rural communities. In this setting, the training may also be useful for individuals looking to add a training like COMET to their own programming.
Free chili and cinnamon rolls will be provided. For more information, contact Lori Martin at 785-410-5486
